Passive overvoltage protection (POP option) for DC sources

Overvoltage peaks generated by the customer's application can destroy the output circuit of DC sources. In order to protect the output circuit from this error type, we offer a passive overvoltage protection as option POP for our laboratory power supplies of the series LAB/SMP 750 to 2400 W and LAB/HP 3 kW to 63 kW. This overvoltage protection is realised with suppressor diodes.

In the different branches like industry, research, automotive, railway, aerospace, automation and system integration there are many applications where the required laboratory power supply has to be connected to the application via a longer cable. From a technical point of view, this leads to a voltage drop via the power resistor and the voltage applied to the consumer is therefore lower than the output voltage set at the DC source.

Galvanically isolated analog interface

A galvanically isolated analog interface is mainly used in automated systems for test procedures, production processes and stand-alone systems. Since the systems are controlled by PLCs, an analogue interface with galvanic isolation and a control level of 0-10 V or 0-5 V is ideal for this application.

Decoupling diode serial for DC sources

Decoupling diodes are used to protect against unwanted reverse voltage into the laboratory power supply and to protect against overvoltages that do not reach 150% of the maximum output voltage. Semiconductor diodes are connected in series to the output. This feature avoids energy being discharged into the output circuit when batteries are connected to the DC source.

Freewheeling diode for DC - sources

 Free-wheeling diodes are used for protection against overvoltage when an inductive DC load (e.g. electric motor, relay coil, solenoid) is switched off. For this purpose, semiconductor diodes are connected in parallel to inductive DC loads so that they are stressed by the supply voltage in the reverse direction.

Option High Speed for DC sources
