Passive overvoltage protection (POP option) for DC sources

Avatar of admin admin - 14. August 2021 - Option

Overvoltage peaks generated by the customer's application can destroy the output circuit of DC sources. In order to protect the output circuit from this error type, we offer a passive overvoltage protection as option POP for our laboratory power supplies of the series LAB/SMP 750 to 2400 W and LAB/HP 3 kW to 63 kW. This overvoltage protection is realised with suppressor diodes.

Suppressor diodes are diodes used to protect electronic circuits from short-time voltage pulses. The voltage reached for a short time can be high enough to destroy semiconductor components in the circuit. Voltage pulses are generated, among other things, when a circuit is opened, e.g. by switching off electrical devices or activating a circuit breaker (double battery system). In automated test sequences where the test objects are switched on and off in a short time sequence, the POP option is a useful extension to increase the process reliability of the test sequences.
